The next meeting of the Hillsboro Band Boosters will be Tuesday, November 29, in the junior high band room at 6:30 p.m. We will elect officers and discuss plans for new uniforms. Please let Mrs. Manasco know if you are interested in running for an office but cannot attend.
Congrats to the HHS Marching Hiltoppers for their performance at the Barry Apple Festival on Saturday, October 1. HHS placed 2nd of Class B bands behind Grand Champions AC Central. The Topper Drumline placed third out of all drumlines in the Battle of the Drumlines. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success!
The HHS band will travel to Barry, IL on Sat. Oct. 1 to participate in the Barry Apple Festival parade competition. Call time is 8:30 a.m. in the high school band room. We will wear our formal uniforms. We will stop for an early lunch on the way to Barry. The parade will line up at 12:00 and step off at 1:00. There will be a “Battle of the Drumlines” at the reviewing stand following the parade. We will stay until awards are presented at 5:00. We will not stop on the way home, but students will be allowed to eat at the Apple Festival before the awards ceremony. Bring money for lunch and food at Barry.
The year is off to a great start for the fifth grade beginning band! We currently have 40 students signed up between Beckemeyer and Coffeen schools. It is not too late for fifth graders to sign up. Contact Mrs. Manasco if you are the parent of a fifth grader interested in band.
There will be a Hillsboro Band Boosters meeting on Monday, September 12 in the junior high band room. Parents of all junior high and high school band students are invited to attend. You may park in the rear parking lot and enter through the door behind the red storage shed.
The junior high and high school bands will both march in the Witt Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 5. Junior high percussionists should meet at the junior high at 8:00 a.m. to load drums. All other junior high and high school students should meet at the high school at 8:30 a.m. Junior high students need to make sure they have their instruments with them when leaving school on Friday. Any junior high student who does not have their instrument can meet at 8:00 a.m. with the percussionists.
Students who live in Witt may meet us at the Witt Lions Club building at 9:15 a.m. if I have a signed parent note by Friday. Parents may sign junior high students out at the Lions Club as soon as the band is finished marching. Students who are not signed out will ride the bus back to the junior high. The bus should arrive back by 12:00 p.m. Please make sure your child has a ride home at that time.
The high school band will perform uptown immediately following the parade. We will return to Hillsboro as soon as we are finished. We will probably be back between 12:30-1:00 p.m.
Uniform for the junior high is the marching band t-shirt and shorts, socks, and tennis shoes. High school is in summer uniforms. Girls should wear hair pulled back.
Parents are welcome to walk with the band, especially the junior high. We could also use a few parents on the junior high bus. Anyone willing to donate drinks for after the parade should contact Mrs. Manasco or leave a comment.
Marching band camp for all HJHS and HHS band members begins on Monday, August 1! HHS camp will run from 8-12 at the high school. HJHS camp will run from 12:30 to 2:30 at the junior high. Bring water and dress for the weather. Contact Mrs. Manasco if you have any questions or concerns!
The high school band will be performing at IHSA Organizational Contests at Carlinville High School on Saturday, April 16. Our warm-up time is 9:50 a.m. and our performance is at 10:20 a.m. Band members should be meet in the high school band room in uniform (no hats) at 8:30 a.m. We should be back around noon. Keep practicing!!!
There will be a booster meeting on Monday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school band room. All parents of current junior high and high school band members are invited to attend. We will discuss this year’s high school awards banquet and also look ahead to ideas for next year.
